Db Bistro

Db Bistro :: Junping's 21st Birthday
........................................................................

So about a couple of weeks or so ago, my good friend Junping held his birthday at Marina Bay Sands! Is it just me or is it starting to be a trend for people to have their birthdays in hotel rooms these days? And most of the time, it's always Marina Bay Sands! Hahah, so anyway, being the rich kid he is(lucky fella), he booked a suite for his birthday! Mind you, a standard room at MBS is already sooooo expensive.

So before going to the Suite, all of us headed to Marina Bay Sands Mall (The Shoppes or whatever you call it), to have dinner at this pretty posh restaurant called "Db Bistro". French cuisine If I'm correct since the menu was in french.
I found it really hard selecting what I wanted to eat since I've never heard of so many dishes in my life. Hahah. Kenny and Junping were happily discussing what they wanted to eat as if they understood every single French word perfectly. Akhbar and I were left staring at each other with no clue what to eat. Haha

Junping the birthday boy who turned 21!

Oh and I have to add that Db Bistro is a really nice place to dine at. The ambience, everything was really posh. I loved the setting of the place.

We occupied two different tables since all of us weren't able to squeeze into one table.

Akhbar

First we were served bread and butter. I loveee bread and butter. I swear if I was served just this for dinner, I'd still be more than happy. Hehe.

Foie gras. The portion was really small. But this baby costs quite alot. If you don't have any idea what Foie gras is, it's basically GOOSE LIVER(Thanks to the anonymous fella for correcting me). The entire 'meat' literally just melts in your mouth.

I thought it'd be disgusting at first since I've never been a fan of inerts such as kidney, liver, heart etcetc.
To my surprise, I actually liked Foie gras. Kenny and Junping had this each. It was really good. The texture when I chewed it was like "Tiramisu in my mouth". And can you chew tiramisu? No you can't, cos it just melts.

And this is what Kenny had for his main dish.
Duck Confit. Confit? yeah ikr. beats me too.

No idea what this dish is called but doesn't that just look good? This was Junping's main dish.

And what did Akhbar and I have? Because we didn't understand the menu much, we just stuck to the safest option. Hahah a burger! They called this the "Yankee Burger". Had my patty done at medium rare. Didn't really like it that much because the patty was sorta dry and it kept breaking. I'd suggest getting the patty done at medium well next time. :)

But I have to say that the best beef burger that I've ever tried definitely has to be at Clarke Quay. This place called "RebelHood". Seriously. If you're there, please go and try the Beef Burger. I promise you you'll be on seventh heaven with every bite. Hahaha. The beef patty is so juicy and succulent. An explosion of flavour with every bite. Bread just nicely toasted/baked. Just... simply... divine. Damn now I want one.

Dessert!

Souffle and a sorbet.

Madeleines for Junping's birthday 'cake'. On the house! Hehe. Thank you Db Bistro!

So after dinner, we all headed back to the hotel suite!

Instantly fell in love with the bedroom.Probably the best part about the entire suite. It was sooooo damn beautiful that even words can't describe la. seriously.

Kenny and I. :)

The entire night was spent watching "Master Chef". Hahaha, sounds boring? But actually it was pretty fun watching it together! All of us laughing, throwing comments during the show etc. Super chilled birthday.

My crazy friend Akhbar.

Kenny, Chin, Junping.

The lovely view from the suite. Sorry my camera didn't do the place much justice. It's honestly really so much nicer when you see it in person.

All in all, It was a good birthday and I'm glad Junping enjoyed it! Happy Birthday again Junping! :D Hope the army is treating you well right now. Hahah.

Till the next entry. xoxo Toodloo.

Lots of Love,

  2. OK Let me teach you something about French Food.

1)Foie Gras (pronounce as Fwa Gra) = Goose Liver (yes high in fat contend but not entirely fat). But please it's not Duck fat!

2)Confit Canard (pronounce as Confit Kana) Confit comes from the word Confiture ....which means Jam. You see.... fruits are preserved in sugar to make jam while the duck is preserve in salt So basically it's preserved duck.

3)The mussel dish is most likely cooked in cream, garlic & parsley call - Moules marinière or
Otherwise it's cooked in white wine then it will be call Moules au Vin Blanc. (Moules pronounce as Mool)

4)DB stands for Daniel Bolud ... he is a (3) Michelin Star chef from Lyon! So of course posh lah and SUPER Ex!!! But this is the cheaper line of his string of restuarant...(abit like what Armani Exchange is to Emporio Armani)

Hope this help you appreciate French Cuisine a little bit better.
