Modeling - The Journey So Far..
Alot of people have asked me on formspring, what got me started on Modeling, how did I get started on Modeling and what do I love about it. Well, this blog entry is here to answer your questions and basically to share with you guys(my lovely loyal blog readers) about my journey. Unlike most girls who dreamed of being a Top Model when they were younger, my dreams were pretty much simple. I dreamed to be a teacher, a princess(pretty much impossible), taxi driver(uh..... ?) and even a singer(CMI).
Modeling never crossed my mind to be honest. Sure I loved the mirror, I AM VAIN(I admit, but c'mon who isn't?) Even guys are vain, take for example my boyfriend Shafiq, who constantly loves looking at himself in the rear view mirror of his Mitsubishi Lancer. Hahah, so you see, my boyfriend is a living example of vanity. Guess that's why we're both like two peas in a pod. I love taking pictures of myself, he LOVES getting ME to take pictures of him, and he smiles ever so widely each time a nice shot is taken of him. But the fun does not just stop there! He'll keep asking me to snap pictures of him at every angle. That's my vain boyfriend for you.
Haha, what I'm trying to say is, when I was younger, I always loved 'camwhoring', but modeling, well, it never occurred to me that I could ever be one, until my friend, Andy who is now a really established Hair stylist in singapore asked me to collaborate with him for a photoshoot, because he loved my loooonggggg hair! Time really does fly fast man, can you believe , that this happened, just last year? It feels like sooo long though. I guess I really have him to thank for, for noticing me out of the crowd, and picking me to be his model. That was basically how my portfolio got started you could say, and also how I mustered courage and confidence to go for future photoshoots and even participate in runway shows to this day. We rounded up a photographer and a makeup artist to collaborate with us too, and BANG! We've got a crew!
Gotta admit, I thought modeling was easy! Really I did, but I guess, when I was asked to give certain expressions(for one, I was asked to give a fierce but sexy look),guess it was difficult. I'm so used to doing the peace sign in front of the camera, and doing really stupid faces.
How could I give off sexy when I've always been giving off, 'act cute faces'. Mega ew. hahaha! This is how the pictures turned out!
This is still, my all time favourite shot! :)
Ok, is this fierce + sexy? HAHAHA. I think I look constipated, and like a vampire. Ok, a constipated vampire.
This was the 2nd look! :)
And this is Andy Rezali! :) The guy who first got me started with my portfolio! :) If it weren't for him, I don't think I'd ever be modeling now. So, thank you Andy! :)
After I got my portfolio started, the jobs started rolling in soon after! :) Various blogshops also contacted me in regards to being their model! I accepted, of course! :)
Below are some of the shots!
Runwaybandits
Pictures below were taken from a separate modeling assignment! Nothing really special, since no hair and makeup was done by any professional.
I love this shot! ALOT! :) and yess, i'm wearing clothes. I would neverr ever shoot nude shots. It's just.. well... not something I'd want people to see. hahaha

Love the effects from this shot! One of my all time favs as well!
I know people tend to look down on blogshop models, but lemme tell you something, why not you give it a try? Maybe then you'd realize, how the job isn't as easy as it seems. It can be pretty challenging because the poses you wanna do can be a little restricted(depending on the blogshop you work with), and how you manage to somehow WORK IT, all depends on you. And sometimes, after 10 over shots, you'll run out of ideas and poses. The poses you do, gotta flatter both your face and the clothing, and mind you, not all the clothes are always to your liking, sometimes they can look totally ugly, big or tight on you, and you still don't really have a choice. A good blogshop model is someone who looks good in whatever he/she is given no matter how ugly the clothing may look in real life.
So if any of my fellow readers, are blogshop models, do not be disheartened by some of the very hurtful comments people can give. :D Just do what you like doing! ^^ Afterall, what could be better than getting PAID to get YOUR PICTURES taken right? ;)

So, what do I like about modeling?
I know I'm not a big time model, but I just love how modeling lets me express my emotions through pictures. I love how my poses are never restricted, because I'm always free to try out all sorts of poses. And of course, it's fun and I love it whenever I see a good picture! :D
To those of you who wanna be a model, but don't know how to start, here are a few pointers for you to get started/noticed.
TIPS
If you've any photographer friends(that are GOOD) , arrange a photoshoot with them. I don't believe in paying hundreds of dollars to get a portfolio done. I mean, c'mon, I'm a living example that you DON'T need to pay HUNDREDS just to get one done. I didn't, and I still receive jobs, and I even received offers to join modeling agencies like Crossroads and Phantom!
Join as many modeling competitions that you can find. Through CHIC Girl, I was scouted by Phantom Modeling agency and was offered a contract to join their agency.
Dress up whenever you go out, and look your best. Singapore is small. You might just bump into scouts for reputable modeling agencies or be asked to be a runway model etcetc. But be warned, ensure that these agencies are reputable and not a scam. Always do some background research on the particular agency.
Put up a good Facebook profile picture. I've received quite a number of modeling jobs through Facebook. Facebook can also be a starting point for you.
Get a website to publish y0ur portfolio as well. You can have them both printed and published online. The internet is an amazing network and you should definitely make full use of it.
Have a lot of fun!
Show attitude in your pictures and don't be afraid to pose freely! Don't be shy! :D
Warnings
Modeling is a tough business. Try not to be discouraged by rejections.
If you are planning a photo shoot with a photographer you have met online, it is highly recommended that you bring a friend or somebody you can trust to the shoot. It's for your own safety, as you never know who is who online! If you can't bring a chaperone (because you are unable to find one or because the photographer doesn't allow chaperones), make sure you do a background search on the photographer first- check out things such as who they have worked with and for - and call somebody when you get to the shoot and when you leave the shoot.
Be wary of any agency that asks for money up front. The majority of agencies get their money through commission- meaning they take a certain percentage of your pay for every job that you do. If you don't work, then they don't get paid. If you've already paid up, there's no incentive for them to find you work. However, don't dismiss everybody who asks you for up-front fees as a scam. If you are sure that they are an agency, listen carefully to what they are asking for the fees for.
* You don't have to be STICK THIN, to be a model, that's for sure. Models come in all shapes and sizes. So, chase your dream and be DARING AND TRY OUT AS MANY THINGS AS YOU CAN WHILE YOU'RE STILL YOUNG! Good Luck! .............................................................................
