'Eating with the Germans' ...............................................................
Ok I know what you must be thinking. What the hell is up with the blog entry title? 'Eating with the Germans?'.
Because well, what I'm about to show you are a bunch of german girls, and yes, these photos show pictures of me well um.. eating with them. Thus, 'Eating with the Germans'. Sounds like some tv show right? Hahah.
So well.. I never really knew how much I could learn by just mixing with Germans. If some of you remember me doing a post once about me going to Germany for an Overseas Exchange Programme Trip, sadly, I fell sick on the day of the interview and therefore, my attendance in this exchange programme has therefore been deemed void. :( Oh well, hopefully one day if I do intend to join the cabin crew as a stewardess, I'd get to see the world for myself without having to pay a single penny for it. A dreamer? Yeah,that.. I am. :)
But hey, everything always starts with a dream doesn't it?
Anyway back to what I've learnt about the Germans:
1) They don't like Durian. To us, well, we love it, but to them, it's pretty much just gross. Hahaha.
2) They're fascinated at the fact we have loads of Palm Trees on our island. They're sick of their 'Christmas' looking trees.
3) THEY HATE THE SNOW. They would trade snow for out weather anytime. Haha, it's pretty ironic right? Because I've always imagined that snow was such a beautiful weather. I hate the sun, really. It just makes me mad whenever I'm feeling all sweaty and smelly - puts me in a bad mood. But hey, they love the weather here!
4) They find my school's air conditioned rooms/shopping malls too cold.
5) They've never tried so many of our traditional snacks (Indian, Chinese, Malay, Eurasian..) I made sure I introduced them to a few. hahah
6) My friend Anja has been constantly saying 'You die die must do' since her stay in Singapore. They all find Singlish rather peculiar really.
7) They find Asian men too skinny. Hahaha, guys if you're reading this, WELL YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO AYE if you ever wanna snag a German girl! ;)
8) Germans tend to be a little harder to talk to in the beginning because they don't open up much to strangers, but once you do get to know them, then they are really fun and nice people! :)
9) In Singapore, rice is our staple food. In Germany, they hardly eat rice. Bread is their staple food.
10) In Germany, during the Christmas season, it's a tradition for everyone to decorate and bake their own Christmas cookies. HOW AWESOME IS THIS?
11) My friend Hannah is really cute in pronouncing Chinese names. Instead of 'Ms Chia', she pronounces it as 'Ms Shia'. Falila and I always have to constantly correct her. hahaha
12) Do you all know the sandals 'Birkenstock?' It's manufactured in Germany and over there these sandals are really really cheap over there and do you also know that Germans never wear these out? Because it's only used as a slipper in the house. (They are amazed that we are all crazy over Birkenstock and actually wear it out - they find it ugly. LOL)
The list honestly goes on and on. Honestly, if you ever get the chance to go to Germany,I strongly urg you to try their German bread. Anja gave me a packet and my friends had the privilege of trying it. I have to admit, most of them didn't like it because the taste was really something so different. It's hard to really describe what it tastes like. It's called 'Pumpernickel', and it looks something like this.
A little bit about the Bread:
"Pumpernickel is a type of very heavy, slightly sweet rye bread traditionally made with coarsely ground rye. It is now often made with a combination of rye flour and whole rye berries. The defining characteristics of Westphalian pumpernickel are coarse rye flour—rye meal—and an exceedingly long baking period. The long slow baking is what gives pumpernickel its characteristic dark colour. The bread can emerge from the oven deep brown, even black. German pumpernickel is often sold in small packets of presliced bread".
Cool aye? If you ever get the chance to try it. Do try it :) Not too sure if there are any German bakeries or store selling this bread, but if you do chance upon it, try it and be shocked at how different the taste it. It's a taste that grows on you actually. The first time you try it, you'll probably be overwhelmed at how strong the taste it, but after awhile it grows on you. :)
So yeah, some German facts for you, and now off to the rest of this blog entry!
This dinner was actuallyorganized for Zulhaily, our videographer for the 'Runergy' Advertisement video he shot, just to sorta like thank him for his help and effort. :) We all headed to Marina Square for Pizza!
All the German girls :)
And this is Zulhaily :)
So as you might have already guessed, we chose Pizza Hut :) Ohh they have Pizza Hut in Germany too if you didn't know!
Runergy's group leader, Marina Kern. :)
Saw Enrico and Mahirah too so I went to take a picture with them. hahaha random me. x)
Dinner was good, we stayed there for over 2 hours just eating and talking and talking. :) Such a good dinner. It was filled with loads of laughter as well. After dinner, it was camwhoring!
Sucha good night out. I'm definitely going to miss these girls so freaking much. :'(
They'll be leaving soon. Sigh. It's sad how they always have to go. :( boohoo.
So that sums up the end of 'Eating with the Germans'. Hope you liked the entry, and learnt a thing of two about Germans!
